Choose The Best Shower Screen Seals

You didn’t think there would be much of a story to tell about the best Shower Screen Seals did you? On the face of it there isn’t, but if you start to think about it, you can take quite an interesting journey into history tracing back the origins and predecessors of the humble shower seal.

We didn’t need shower screen seals until the invention of the shower screen when it became apparent that to fit one of these in your shower cubicle or on the side of your bath, there was the need for a flexible piece of rubber or plastic to stop the water spilling out into the bathroom.

Someone invented those shower screens. But those weren’t needed until someone actually invented the shower. Probably thousands of years ago, a human was washing their hair under a waterfall and thought “wouldn’t it be great if I could do this near to my dwelling” and they probably rigged up a bucket of water to a tree, and put some holes in the bottom of the bucket to recreate the experience "at home".

That developed into a much more modern interpretation at some point where a plumber decided to create a hose arrangement from their taps in their bath and rigged up a shower head of some sort.

You can take any part of the history above and expand on it further and you can see that there have been thousands of things that need to be invented and refined before we even had the idea of needing shower seals.

Luckily all of that was in place and we put together a website, running on the internet, to help you find your shower screen seal as easily as possible. Of course we could go into the history of the computer and the internet and electricity and telephones as well to fully cover all of the inventions that are necessary for you to be able to easily find and order your seal for delivery. And we would need to explore the history of motor vehicles and trains and boats and planes to cover off the delivery side of things.

Thankfully all of that is already invented, so we just do the little part at the end of this massive history to bring the best service possible in finding a shower screen seal that fits your shower, and deliver it to you as quickly as possible.

We hope you enjoyed this little adventure and you can marvel at the seal that arrives in the post, gets fitted to your shower screen and stops the water spilling onto your lovely bathroom floor

These seals are generally translucent and often used in glass-to-glass contact areas. The translucent nature makes these shower seals the natural choice when working on a frame less shower stall. Some of these have single-edged sweeps to allow greater stiffness, while still making a water-proof seal.

The Best Shower Screen Seals

This wouldn’t have been possible until plumbing had been invented to have running water into the home, and someone had to invent the bath first as no doubt the first showers ran into a bath, although of course we now all have standalone showers without the need of a bath due to the invention of shower trays to catch the water.

To have running water into your home, someone invented metal pipes, first out of lead, and then out of copper. If you had to make a metal pipe from nothing, you would find it very difficult. Someone had to invent the process of making those pipes and a method to join them together and bend them round the structure of a building.

To run water into your home, someone originally had the idea to take water from a source, and transfer it from there to one or more dwellings. Of course these days, there are millions of miles of pipes to do this for us and massive reservoirs, but once upon a time it probably came from a natural pond or river. Someone invented dams to make bigger ponds, then lakes to make sure there was enough supply of water for everyone.

That is just for the cold water. Someone had to invent a way of heating the water so you woulnd’t have to have a cold shower in the middle of winter. We now have clever little boxes in our houses that heat up water on demand from gas or electricity (or solar power). Once upon a time the water would only be hot when heated over a fire.

Going back to the shower seals. Someone had to invent flexible plastic to allow the seals to work effectively. In order to shape them, someone else invented plastic moulding to allow the seals to be shaped according to the size of the glass and the depth of the gap that needed to be sealed.

Plastic was invented as a by-product of oil and that could only happen once oil was being successfully extracted from the ground and someone worked out that by processing the by-products of oil in a certain way, plastics could be created and shaped into all manner of useful items. Plastic is only a massive problem in the world these days because it is so versatile and useful that nearly everything we use in the world day contains some of it.Oil was formed by trees being rotted down and over millions of years broken down into a gloop that someone once discovered could be used for fuel and products. Then someone else had to invent methods of extracting it from the ground and processing it.

How To Replace an Old Bath Shower Screen Seal

I am not a very proficient Do It Yourself person, but recently I was asked by my wife to sort out the Shower Screen Seal in our bathroom. I have never paid much attention to shower screen seals in our house and I didn’t know whether this was going to be one of those 2 hour jobs or a simple 10 minute thing to do, and I also didn’t know whether it was going to be easy to find a replacement.

So I started to have a look and saw that the first stage was relatively easy. I could simply move the shower screen away from the bath, and peel off the shower screen seal from the bottom of the screen. So with the perished seal in hand, I turned to Google to search online for where I might find a replacement.

I happened to be planning a visit to the nearby DIY shop, Homebase, and I had with me the seal that I had taken off, so I started to look at whether I could pick up a replacement shower door seal so that I could get the job completed the same day. Unfortunately they only had a limited range of shapes and sizes, and they didn’t have the exact one I was looking for.

So I returned home and the next step was to look online. I typed shower screen seal into the search box and up came several sites that displayed the types of seals that I was looking for. I settled on a UK based website called ShowerSealUK.com which looked simple to use and the prices looked good with free UK delivery too.

What I didn’t realise was the wide range of shower screen seals that were available. The one I was looking for was relatively simple in shape, but there were some very interesting looking ones online. What the site explained was that I needed to measure the width of the glass in the door first, then the gap between the bottom of the shower door and the bath, and finally the length required. So I did this and looked at the shapes of the seals available. It didn’t take long to find the correct shape in the correct measurements, and I went ahead and ordered it. Mine door was 5mm thick, the gap was about 10mm and the length I needed was 800mm (just under 1 metre).

Choose The Best Shower Screen Seal

The bathroom should not be overlooked as it is a place that ought to function efficiently yet also be stylishly designed and decorated. Showers are one of the critical features of any bathroom. There is no substitute for a brisk, refreshing shower to start the day off right, and shower doors have the ability to add great flair to the decor in any bathroom while serving an important and practical function.

A wide array of shower door seal are available, and it is useful to ponder a few factors prior to making a selection. The shower's sealing material, the type of stripping used, the door's clearance and its ruggedness are all elements to take into consideration. Sliding doors for shower stalls have long been very popular, as they are easy to use, simple to install, and provide privacy without consuming great amounts of room space. For homes in which square footage is limited, this style of shower screen seal can be perfect. Given the large selection of doors on the market, each homeowner can find a finish and a medium they find pleasing. Fashionable door styles include those made of translucent glass, glass block and etched glass.

Commonly used shower door seal styles have been known to leak, have been hard to clean and have tended to break easily. After several years, such doors frequently shift off of their original installation locations, and therefore require constant monitoring to make certain they do not come unfastened. Ensuring that door panels remain clean and unclogged so that full range of motion is retained is an additional hassle brought about by some traditional styles. Current door styles are often frameless, providing a new twist on a bathroom's aesthetic. These new doors are very sturdy, are easy to care for, and are available in a wide selection of colors, styles and sizes.

Door seals in shower stalls are critical because they are the only way to prevent leaks, and therefore polycarbonate and PVC materials are used in their manufacture. Shower seals of different types and functionality are available.

Such products include:

-Transparent Polycarbonate

This type of product is meant for sealing glass on glass surfaces, and provides a seam-free finish with no extraneous markings.

Aluminum Profile Seal

The most common and traditional of door seals, they are used with metal framed shower doors seal. These are the vinyl padded "tracks" that allow smooth opening and closing of shower doors, and keep the water in the stall rather than allowing flow into the rest of the bathroom. These come in colors varying from clear to various opaque colors.

Plastic is only a massive problem in the world these days because it is so versatile and useful that nearly everything we use in the world day contains some of it.

Oil was formed by trees being rotted down and over millions of years broken down into a gloop that someone once discovered could be used for fuel and products. Then someone else had to invent methods of extracting it from the ground and processing it.

We hope you enjoyed this little adventure and you can marvel at the seal that arrives in the post, gets fitted to your shower screen and stops the water spilling onto your lovely bathroom floor :)
